Overview
Hoops 4 Health has been operating in the NT for over 23 years. Through its unique approach, the organisation uses trauma and culturally informed approaches to engage young people through their programs to build resilience and life skills.
What was the opportunity
In December 2023, Hoops 4 Health Pty Ltd was put forward for consideration to participate in the Melbourne Business Schools Strategic Consulting for Social Impact Initiative.
The program is aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Australia’s social purpose sector by offering pro bono strategic reviews. Hoops 4 Health were one of three NT Businesses accepted into the program. The program took place from February to May 2024. It involved a group of five Executive Master of Business Administration students with varying professional backgrounds and experience working with Hoops 4 Health via regular Zoom meetings to understand their business model and review their strategy.
Outcome
The group first completed a business overview, providing advice to the business before collating their feedback and recommendations. The students presented their findings to an auditorium full of students, staff and business owners at Melbourne School including Hoops 4 Health who attended virtually.
As a result of the program, Hoops 4 Health have reviewed their business structure. They are exploring new revenue opportunities and are considering creating a new position within their business to support business growth.
The business received a report providing a summary of the analyses, findings and action plans. This information has been implemented in the design of their 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, which is written by ‘Getting Inspired’ with the support of the NT Government via the Aboriginal Business Development Program.
