Overview
Liandra Gaykamangu was born in Nhulunbuy and grew up on Milingimbi, a remote island community in the Northern Territory’s Arnhem Land.
She launched the swim and resort wear brand Liandra, which was created as a vessel to move between two worlds.
After five and a half years of collaborations, Liandra has created a place where on-the-ground impact matches the broader social impact enabling Indigenous Australians to have opportunities to expand their network, skills and opportunities.
Liandra designs all her own products and hand draws the prints. She is a self-taught business entrepreneur who is expanding her business.
What was the challenge
Liandra was confident in her business idea but required support to turn it into a reality and scale it to create sustainable impact in her community.
Finding solutions
Liandra engaged in support services offered under the suite of NT Government Business Growth Program and through the Innovation NT eco-system. She has most recently engaged in the Business Innovation Program and through Australian Fashion Week, catapulting her towards becoming one of Australia’s leading fashion designers.
Liandra’s business is going from strength to strength with her swimwear line in major outlets.
