Alice Springs seniors' lifestyle accommodation expressions of interest

Published

The Northern Territory Government is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from private proponents to develop and operate a seniors’ lifestyle accommodation village in Alice Springs.

The Territory Government’s vision is for the provision of purpose-built accommodation options for senior Territorians in a safe community environment. Senior Territorians who live independently in their own home will remain in the Territory and be able to transition into appropriate accommodation by ‘downsizing’ or ‘rightsizing’ if they wish.

Unlike aged care, seniors’ lifestyle accommodation is for seniors who are capable of living independently and maintaining an active and social lifestyle.

The Territory Government has identified a potential site for the development, 2.5km from the Alice Springs central business district and situated on the northern side of the MacDonnell Ranges in the premier residential area of Mount Johns.

Proponents will have the opportunity to identify alternate sites in Alice Springs as part of the EOI process, and will also determine the preferred accommodation model and the design of the development to create a commercially sustainable seniors’ lifestyle accommodation village.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a significant impact on Territory businesses and investors and the Territory Government are delivering a package of economic response programs and initiatives to keep businesses open and provide jobs for Territorians.

Part of this economic response is to facilitate and bring forward major projects that could provide significant injection to the local economy and create jobs for Territorians. This includes the Alice Springs seniors’ lifestyle accommodation development.

Interested proponents can pre-register their interest for the Alice Springs seniors’ lifestyle accommodation from 21 April 2020.

The EOI process opens on 24 April 2020 and closes on 29 May 2020.
