Proposals sought for seniors’ accommodation in Darwin urban area
Senior Territorians will be encouraged to stay in the Territory and continue to contribute to our community with the development of more seniors’ accommodation. The Northern Territory Government is now seeking proposals to develop a seniors’ lifestyle accommodation community in the Darwin urban area.
Requests for detailed proposals (RFDPs) are now open to construct and operate an innovative seniors’ lifestyle accommodation community in Darwin.
This is a single-stage competitive process to facilitate private sector development of the project. Government will not be developing or operating the facility. Government may consider proposals that identify requirements for government support for the project to be economically and commercially viable.
As part of this process, the Northern Territory Government will also establish an online portal for parties such as developers, investors, land owners and / or operators to register their interest in collaborating with others on the project.
The process is designed to allow market forces to determine the most viable commercial model for the accommodation. This includes the number and type of dwellings, the price points, the delivery model, and identifying an appropriate site for the project.
A successful proposal must enhance Darwin’s attractiveness as a retirement location by providing modern community living appropriate for aging, suited to the local environment and demographics.
“Keeping families together and increasing the number of Territorians choosing to retire in the Territory will enrich our community,” said Chief Executive of the Department of Trade, Business and Innovation, Shaun Drabsch.
“Keeping more people in the Territory means more jobs, more business opportunities and a stronger economy.”
Interested proponents must register at business.nt.gov.au/darwinseniors before 16 August 2019. Further information and registration details are available on the page.
It’s anticipated an outcome of the RFDP process will be announced by early 2020.
