New business confidence survey results available

A new quarterly publication is available which outlines confidence levels of businesses across the Territory.

The Department of Trade, Business and Innovation’s Chief Executive Michael Tennant said the survey was undertaken through one-on-one interviews with 500 businesses across the Territory.

"This new survey is an important tool for us because it helps us understand local business confidence and the key factors influencing it.

"Business confidence is a key barometer and a leading indicator of business conditions - which is important information for government in designing and delivering programs and policies,"Mr Tennant said.  

The first business confidence survey results, released today, show that in the quarter to December 2016: 

  • The Territory-wide business confidence level was +53%, with varying levels across regions.
  • Business confidence by region ranged from +91% in East Arnhem to +8% in Daly-Tiwi-West Arnhem.
  • Fifty per cent of the Territory businesses expected to perform better this year compared to the previous year.

The survey covers urban and regional areas of the Territory and captures different industry sectors and business sizes (small, medium and large).The survey results will be published quarterly, view the
