The NT Training Awards nominations are now open and close at 5pm on 26 May 2019.

The preferred method for submitting your nomination is online.

Step 1: Read the conditions of entry and choose which category below best suits you.

Step 2: Create an account in the online nomination portal.

Step 3: Start an online nomination. You are able to save it and go back in and edit it at any time during the nomination period.

Individual categories

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award sponsored by East Arnhem Regional Council

To be eligible, you must:

  • be identified as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • not be at school
  • be a full-time or part-time student in the Northern Territory (NT) and have recently completed or be due to complete your nationally accredited vocational education and training (VET) qualification (including an apprenticeship or traineeship) between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019.

Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year Award sponsored by ISACNT

To be eligible, you must:

  • have completed or be due to complete your training (for example, your apprenticeship) between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 a training course that leads to a nationally recognised outcome or qualification
  • have a contract of training registered with the NT training authority.

Nominate online now for the Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year Award.

School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year Award sponsored by GTNT

To be eligible, you must:

  • be undertaking / completing a Certificate II or above qualification through an Australian School-based Apprenticeship (apprenticeship or traineeship)
  • be still enrolled at school
  • have a contract of training registered with your relevant state training authority.

Trainee of the Year Award sponsored by NEC

To be eligible, you must have completed or be due to complete your training (for example, contract end date) in the period 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 in a training course that leads to a nationally recognised outcome or qualification.

VET Teacher / Trainer of the Year Award

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a qualified (as determined by the Australian Qualifications Framework) and registered teacher / trainer employed (or regularly contracted) by a NT based registered training organisation
  • be delivering training (full units of study) in the NT which leads to nationally recognised qualifications or statements of attainment under the national training system for some period between 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018
  • be endorsed by the RTO and evidence of qualification must be submitted with the nomination.

VET in Schools Student of the Year Award sponsored by McArthur River Mine

To be eligible, you must:

  • have completed or are due to complete at least 50% of their VET course at a NT secondary school between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019
  • be still enrolled in a NT school.

Nominate online now for the VET in Schools Student of the Year Award.

Vocational Student of the Year Award sponsored by Hot 100

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a full-time or part-time student but not an Australian Apprentice (apprentice or trainee)
  • have completed or be due to complete your training in the period 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 in a training course that leads to a nationally recognised outcome or qualification relevant to the award you are nominating for, and
  • have had training delivered in the NT.

International Vocational Student of the Year Award sponsored by Study in Australia's NT

To be eligible, you must:

  • be recognised as an international student with a 500 / 572 visa
  • be studying with a NT Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) provider, and
  • at the time of nomination be currently enrolled in a VET course that leads to a nationally recognised outcome or qualification.

Organisational categories

Industry Collaboration of the Year Award sponsored by ISACNT

To be eligible:

  • at least one party must be an industry organisation (for example, employer, enterprise, group of enterprises, industry association, industry advisory body, trade union or professional association)
  • at least one party must be delivering nationally recognised training or directly contributing to the outcomes of nationally recognised training which leads to formal qualifications or statements of attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
  • at least one party must be a Territory enterprise. Territory enterprises must satisfy all three elements below*.

Please note: that nominations will not be accepted from organisations operating under contractual ‘partnership’ agreements.

Large Employer of the Year Award sponsored by Seven Darwin

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a Territory enterprise. Territory enterprises must satisfy all three elements below*.
  • have 200 or more full-time equivalent employees.

The NT Training Awards will accept joint nomination from:

  • a group training organisation who partners with a host employer
  • a host employer who partners with a group training organisation.

Nominations will not be accepted from organisations whose core business is the delivery of VET (these organisations may consider nominating for either the large or small training provider of the year awards).

Nominate online now for the Large Employer of the Year Award.

Medium Employer of the Year Award sponsored by CDU

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a Territory enterprise. Territory enterprises must satisfy all three elements below*.
  • employ 20 or more, but fewer than 200, full-time equivalent employees.

The NT Training Awards will accept joint nomination from:

  • a group training organisation who partners with a host employer
  • a host employer who partners with a group training organisation.

Nominations will not be accepted from organisations whose core business is the delivery of VET (these organisations may consider nominating for either the large or small training provider of the year awards).

Nominate online now for the Medium Employer of the Year Award.

Small Employer of the Year Award sponsored by NT News

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a Territory enterprise. Territory enterprises must satisfy all three elements below*.
  • employ 19 or fewer full-time equivalent employees.

The NT Training Awards will accept joint nomination from:

  • a group training organisation who partners with a host employer
  • a host employer who partners with a group training organisation.

Nominations will not be accepted from:

  • branch offices of larger enterprises (note: franchisees may nominate if their training activities are organised independently of the franchise group), and / or
  • organisations whose core business is the delivery of VET (these organisations may consider nominating for either the large or small training provider of the year awards).

Nominate online now for the Small Employer of the Year Award.

Training Provider of the Year Award sponsored by Hastings Deering

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a RTO for which the delivery of VET is the core business
  • undertake the majority (80%) of their training delivery in the NT and have their head office in the NT.

The nomination must focus on the training delivered in the NT only.

*Territory enterprise must satisfy all three elements of the definition:

  • Operating in the NT - the enterprise is currently engaged in productive activities (for example, production of goods or delivery of services) within the NT.
  • Significant permanent presence - the enterprise maintains an office, manufacturing facilities or other permanent base within the NT.
  • Employing NT residents - the enterprise employs Territorians. An enterprise which relies exclusively on transient, interstate / international labour or a fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workforce will not satisfy this element.
